Discover Castelrotto in every season
Castelrotto is only three kilometres from S. Michele. If you want to spend a holiday in Castelrotto, the way from Villa Tianes by car or by bicycle is a trifle. There is also a bus (line 170) that will take you in less than ten minutes from S. Michele to Castelrotto and back again. For walkers there is a scenic tour going by magnificent farms, from where you can comfortably reach Castelrotto in less than an hour. The place is known for its proximity to the ski resort Siusi Alp and as a setting for the annual Spatzenfest in October. Here many other attractions that you can enjoy starting from Villa Tianes, are often overlooked. Especially for families in and around Castelrotto there is an interesting leisure program all over the year. In winter, for example, the romantic Christmas market at the church square with local specialties and interesting craft products. If you appreciate the cuisine of South Tyrol, you should make a note of the “Hoazetkuchl” (Castelrotto Peasant Wedding) in January. There are not only local dishes from the early 20th century to taste. Visitors can also enjoy a solemn procession of horse-drawn sleighs and peasant costumes.
About farmers and witches – Holiday in Castelrotto
In summer event series provide with didactical entertainment as the adventure farm week, when parents and children go from farm to farm and learn about baking bread and other activities on a farm. During the witches week families dive into the world of medieval herbalists. Besides the visit at Prösels Castle with treasure hunt the program includes also walks to the witches’ benches and to a biological farm. Of course, the Castelrotto church of Saints Peter and Paul is a visit worth with its impressive steeple. About 298 steps lead up to 82 meters, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Castelrotto and its surroundings.
